Colin Hanks (Orange County) and Kyle Chandler ("Early
Edition") have been tapped to join Peter Jackson's
King Kong remake, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
They join Naomi Watts, Jack Black and Adrien Brody in the
Universal Pictures reimagination of the classic story. Hanks
is on board to play a production assistant to filmmaker
Carl Denham (Black) with Chandler in negotiations to play
a 1930s B-movie actor opposite Watts' character, Ann Darrow.
Andy Serkis (Gollum in Jackson's Lord of the Rings films)
is providing the reference for the character of Kong, who
will be a completely computer-generated character, as well
as playing the role of Lumpy the cook.
Jackson said he was excited to work with Hanks and Chandler.
"The fun part of my job is getting to work with talented
actors like Colin -- because they bring so much more to
a role than what is written on the page," he said.
"Kyle is playing a B-movie actor who appears in the
film Denham is shooting on Skull Island. It's a film within
a film, and I'm sure he'll make the most of the dramatic
opportunities."
