[Previously on Roswell.]
Jesse: Isabel will you marry me?
Isabel: Yes
[Max in the basement of the convenience store. He walks towards the spaceship.]
Max (Voice Over): I have to contact my son
Max (Voice Over): There's an underground government storage facility, our ships there.
Isabel (Voice Over): You mean our spaceship?
Max (Voice Over): Its been reassembled, I saw it with my own eyes.
[Ferini confronting Michael with a gun.]
Ferini: I got a message for your friend Max, stop looking.
[Bunny is trying to light her cigarette when there's a bright white light. Joey is burned to death in his car.]
[Max and Liz talking outside.]
Max: There were two shapeshifters that were sent out with us on our ship to protect us. Maybe he's still out there.
Liz: So where do we start?
Max: L.A.
[Max and his agent having lunch outside.]
Agent: That is Kal Langley, THE most powerful producer in this whole town.
[Max in the vault room.]
Kal: Congratulations Max. You found me.
Max: Why'd you kill Ferini?
Kal: He figured out what I am.
[Kal uses his powers to throw Max across the room into a wall.]
Kal: I told you to stop looking for me.
[He then uses his powers to burn the film.]
[At the end of the last episode, Max was unconscious on the floor.]
[Max wakes up and sees the film burning on the floor. He rolls on his back, and Kal puts his foot to his throat.]
Kal: Why are you here?
Max: I'm looking for our ship from the '47 crash.
Kal: Who are you working with?
Max: No one.
[Kal puts his foot on his face.]
Kal: Don't lie to me. I will kill you.
Max: Like you killed Ferini?
Kal: How'd you get to Los Angeles?
Max: I-10 West then straight North.
Kal: Don't get cute with me, you prick.
Max: Do you murder everyone who discovers you're an alien, or do you give a warning first?
Kal: Why do you think I know where this ship is?
Max: You knew it was in Utah.
[Kal grabs Max and pins him against the wall.]
Kal: Who else knows?
Max: [coughs] Please...the smoke...
Kal: Answer me!
[Max coughs more.]
Kal: So this is the mighty king of Antar? A low ranked Tom Cruise with a 10 dollar hair cut. Buddy boy, you have no idea what you are getting yourself into.
Max: I came all this way to find you. I need your help. You are our protector.
Kal: Don't call me that. Yeah, I was put on that ship to protect you, but that was 50 years ago.]
[Kal puts out the fire with his powers.]
Kal: Boys!
[Kal's men come in.]
Kal: You're leaving or you're dead. [They grab Max.] Take Mr. Evans to my airplane.
Man: Yes sir.
Max: Please...just...
[Max is dragged outside.]
[Opening Credits.]
[Outside. Isabel is talking to a wedding planner.]
Isabel: I want a country wedding. Something simple but elegant.
Planner: Sounds like you and mom have been brain storming.
Mrs. Evans: Oh not me, I uh, I can hardly get used to the fact that I'm here.
Isabel: Mom, you said you'd be supportive.
Mrs. Evans: I didn't exactly have a choice.
Planner: It's always a surprise when your little girl takes this step. Patrick! I need mist over here these lilies are languishing before our my eyes. Excuse me.
[She walks away.]
Isabel: [sighs.] Why are you being so negative?
Mrs. Evans: Isabel, I am in shock. I mean I've barely gotten used to the idea of you graduation high school.
Isabel: Mom we have been discussing this for 48 hours straight, I mean, you're the one who hired the annoying wedding planner.
Mrs. Evans: Well, I mean, if you are actually going to go through with this you need to have a realistic plan.
Isabel: If?
[The wedding planner walks up to them.]
Planner: Sorry. So where were we?
Isabel: Well, I was thinking that I'd like to have the wedding in a freshly mowed field, maybe next to a pond, and the have the reception in an old barn.
Planner: Oh that's a lovely notion, really, it is Isabel, but when you go country, you open the door to a host of logistical nightmares, plus the insect population would be very hard to control. You want to know a wonderful venue? The lobby of the Springfield Inn. I have done so many weddings there.
Isabel: Yes, but I don't want someone else's wedding.
Jesse: Maybe we can light the barn with torches. Not--Not like Teki torches. Maybe torches is the wrong word. more like candles.
Planner: Oh there is nothing more flammable than an old barn.
Isabel: Well, yes that's why we need the pond. Wendy, this is my fiancée Jesse
Wendy (Planner): So when do we want to have the big day.
Isabel: This spring.
Mrs. Evans: What?!?
Jesse: Yeah, we figured why wait.
Mrs. Evans: This is not a race, I mean, the two of you just got engaged--
Isabel: Mom, this is what we want. Can't you just be happy? We're planning my wedding. I mean, it's going to be fun, it's gonna be great.
Wendy: Ohhhh, so cute, so in love.
[She smiles at Mrs. Evans, and Mrs. Evans doesn't look too thrilled.]
[Kal's house. He's having a party and talking to some guests.]
Guest: So what happened with Tiffany, did she walk?
Kal: What are you kidding? She's an actress. I bumped up her premiere, I put her in a bigger trailer, I got Brian to re-write the part...
Brian: My finest hour. Now the hooker is a part time yoga instructor.
Guest: You'll open up 30 million, easy.
[Max walks up.]
Max: I'm sorry I'm late. I was on the phone with Ferini.
Kal: I thought you were on an airplane.
Max: Nah, I want to talk about our project.
Kal: Project?
Max: [smiles] You're killing me Kal. [to the guest] Max Evans. Antar Films. [he shakes the guest's hand.]
[CrashDown. After hours. Liz and Maria are there.]
Liz: Voila! [she takes the cookies out of the oven.] M&M's and Tabasco swirl cookies. I came up with the recipe all by myself.
Maria: A care package. Max is so spoiled man.
Liz: [smiles] No he is not
Maria: Liz, he hasn't been gone more than a week.
Liz: Could you just let me finish? Because he's calling in less than an hour. [she smiles.]
Maria: Really?
Liz: Uh huh
Maria: Are you guys going to talk or are you just going to breathe heavy into the phone. Are you going to repeat each others name back and forth and back and forth?
Liz: [laughs] Stop it.
[They giggle.]
[Isabel walks up behind them.]
Liz: [turns around] Oh, Hey! Hi!
Isabel: Um, I'm getting married to Jesse Ramirez.
Liz: What?!?
Maria: What?
Isabel: Yeah, and you know weddings are full of all kinds of stupid traditions like the garter toss and that--that chicken dance, and, well, bridesmaids. And since you guys are the closest things I have to girlfriends I was windering if you'd be mine.
Maria: Okay.
Liz: Yeah, sure
Isabel: Great, good, okay. [she checks it off on her list.] Okay, that's done, okay. Is that for Max? [she points at the care package]
Liz: Uh huh. Um, yeah, sure is.
Isabel: God, he's so spoiled. Oh, you know what, he doesn't know about the engagement yet, so let's just keep it that way. And Maria, I need you to tell Michael for me. Okay. See ya. [she walks off.]
[Maria and Liz look at each other.]
Maria: Did that just happen?
[Max at Kal's party, he's talking to a bunch of people, including Kal, about his movie idea.]
Max: An alien stranded on earth tries to find his way back home
Guest 2: Like E.T.?
Max: Yes, but think Tom Cruise.
Brain: So more like Star Man?
Max: Exactly.
Kal: That picture didn't open.
[He uses the candle next to him to light his cigar. As he's lighting it, he's finger is directly on the flame, yet he doesn't seem to notice. Max notices though.]
Max: Oh, it gets better Kal. See our guy hunts down another alien, also stranded on earth, he's the only one who can help him on his quest.
Scott: How?
Max: I'm glad you asked Scott. [he grins.] There's a ship.
[Kal laughs.]
Max: And this other alien might know where it is or at least have the resources to find it. You see, this other alien is a big [he laughs.] Hollywood producer.
[Kal laughs.]
Kal: That I like. Except I--I don't like these feel good science fiction flicks. I don't think they are interesting unless somebody dies.
[Isabel in her pajamas. She walks into her bedroom. Michael is there reading a magazine that was on her dresser.]
Isabel: Why is it you feel you are above doorbells?
Michael: Got your message. Was it a joke?
Isabel: No. I'm getting married.
Michael: We agreed not to bring anyone else into this.
Isabel: Michael. [she shakes her head and sighs.] I don't want to put my life on hold. This is my one chance to be happy, to love someone and have him love me back without all this garbage that has made us miserable our whole lives getting in the way. I put a lot of thought into it and I don't see any reason why Jesse has to know the truth.
Michael: Well, knowing what I know about alien sex, he's gonna have major questions after the honeymoon.
Isabel: Okay Michael, get out of my room.
Michael: [stands up] What did Max say?
Isabel: [sighs] I'm going to tell him when he gets back.
[Michael nods.]
Isabel: Come on Michael, just congratulate me.
Michael: On what?
[He walks away. Isabel is obviously hurt.]
[Kal's party. Everyone is leaving.]
Brian: [gives Max his card.] Call me tomorrow. For lunch.
Kal: Max? [he walks up to him] That pitch of yours? Stick around I got something I'd like to throw at you.
Brian: You sure you don't want me to stick with you?
Kal: [shakes his hand.] Good night Brian.
Brian: Okay [He leaves]
[Max and Kal go inside his house.]
[Kal shuts the door, then uses his powers to throw Max across the room onto the stairs. Max rolls down some then hits the floor.]
Kal: You come into my home, you talk me in front of my friends, you threatened to expose MEEE!
Max: I have a son.
Kal: You made it with another alien-hybrid.
Max: My child is back on Antar, he's in trouble that's why I need the ship, and one of it's pilots.
Kal: The airforce re-assembled that ship, but it will never fly.
Max: If anyone can get it up and running it would be you.
[Kal grabs Max by the throat and pins him to the wall.]
Kal: I told you, I told you I would kill you.
[He chokes Max.]
Max: You're going to have to.
[He throws Max on the floor and raises his hand wanting to kill Max, but instead he breaks a nearby vase.]
Max: You can't kill me, can you? You've had so many chances. Utah, yesterday in the film vault [he gets up] but you can't, because you are our protector. get as mad as you want, but get one thing straight. I am not going anywhere until you help me.
[Kal pushes Max aside and walks away.]
[CrashDown. Liz and Maria are working.]
Maria: I still can't believe Isabel is getting married. This is like a disaster of epic proportions. You think Michael freaked when he found out, Max is going to go ballistic. And who is Jesse Ramirez?
[Mrs. Evans walks in.]
Mrs. Evans: Hi girls.
Maria: Oh Mrs. Evans, you're here! I--I mean, how--how are you?
Mrs. Evans: Good. So what's new?
Maria: Uh, nothing, you know [she laughs.] Roswell.
Mrs. Evans: Mmm, well , um actually, I was looking for Michael.
Liz: Oh, I'm sorry but he's not working today.
Mrs. Evans: Well, Maria, would you kindly remind him that he still has my 9 by 13 casserole dish. Isabel took something over weeks ago for Max and I, uh, would like it back.
Maria: I--I, uh, will remind him definitely.
Mrs. Evans: So Liz, how is Max?
Liz: Umm. He's fine
Mrs. Evans: I was wondering if you happen to have his new cell phone number. Apparently, he, um, changed it when he move out. I've left a couple of messages at Michael's, but I'm not even sure if he's living there anymore. I just want to talk to my son. I want to know that he is safe. I'm sure you can understand that, can't you?
Liz: I'm sorry but I can't help you.
[Maria looks at Liz. She can't believe that she just said that.]
Mrs. Evans: Well, I'll let you girls get back to work.
Maria: Okay, bye.
[Mrs. Evans leaves.]
Maria: Open defiance of a parental unit. Wooo! This is just so twisted and romantic. You and Max are totally Romeo and Juliet against the world.
Liz: [as she walks away.] Actually Romeo never called last night.
Maria: What?
Liz: [takes a costumer's plate] Yeah...
Costumer: HEY! I'm not done!!
[Maria walks over to Liz.]
Maria: He better be in a ditch somewhere.
Liz: Maria, do not say that.
Maria: I'm just saying that blowing off a phone date is unacceptable, that's all.
Liz: Look, I am just trying to convince myself that he's not hurt of worse, that he is just busy.
Maria: Call his alien butt.
Liz: No. No, I am not going to become the co-dependent girlfriend. Not when he's on this whole quest.
Maria: Okay. I respect that, but I mean, how long is this thing gonna take? He may never find his son.
Liz: Thanks for that pep talk Maria.
Maria: No. Okay, there's no doubt in my mind that he is madly in love with you, but I mean, you're half of this couple. You know? You can't forget that.
[Kal's house. Kal is outside getting a massage. Max walks up.]
Kal: Good morning. That will be all Jisle. [She walks away.] Thank you.
Max: Why would someone who can't feel get a massage?
Kal: Excuse me?
Max: You had your finger on a lit candle last night and you didn't even flinch. See, I don't think you can smell or taste either. You must have a thousand lemons in your fridge.
Kal: I like tea.
Max: See, I don't remember much when I first came out of the pods, but I do remember this, for the first few months, I couldn't smell or taste anything, except for string flavors. Sugar, lemon, tabasco. Eventually our senses matured.
Kal: You don't know how lucky you are to even have a fraction of human DNA inside of you.
Max: You have human envy?
Kal: [sighs] There's not a sensual pleasure on this planet that I can afford. But I can experience it, but not like they can.
Max: If your life is so limited than how can you stand living here?
Kal: I've learned to diminish my alienness.
Max: How?
Kal: I don't shape shift, I haven't done it in years. It gives the body's organs a chance to function.
Max: Seems impossible.
Kal: Well, Earth's 30 years it was, then in 1978, I smelled chlorine in the pool, soon after that, lemons. Last 20 years was a bust, but don't you feel sorry for me. [He picks up a rose and smells it.] I love my life. Can you say the same?
Max: I need to find my son, he's in danger, you can help.
Kal: No Max. This is my home.=, Hollywood, California, USA, planet Earth. [his cell phone rings.]
Kal: Hello? Nikki baby. No. No. No, no, no. I want you client on my set in two day. [Max starts walking around.] That's not true. I'll email you a copy of the contract. I only yell because I love. Later. [he hangs up. the he opens up his phone and looks through is organizer.] (to Max) Kid this will cheer you up. C.E.O of Nokita, he gave me this [he holds up his phone] I got his granddaughter to meet Brad Pitt. The only other guy who's got it is Dick Chainey. George W. is still pissed.
Max: Oh, yeah? Lemme see it.
Kal: Huh?
Max: The phone. If it's that amazing then hand it over.
[Kal hands it to him.]
Kal: It's yours.
Max: What? You just sai--
Kal: Hey you said yourself I should be more giving. Stick around, have a sandwhich take a swim. [he walks away.] See you later, Max.
[Mrs. Evans walks into the kitchen.]
Mrs. Evans: Isabel honey do you have-- [She sees Isabel and Jesse making out.] Uh, [They stop making out. They are clearly embarrassed.] Uh, do you have the number of the, uh, printer that we used for your graduation annoucements?
Isabel: Yeah, it's in my planner. I'll go get it.
Mrs. Evans: Oh, no. No, no, no, I can--I can find it. Why don't you two just....go back to...doing whatever it was that you were doing. [She leaves.]
[Isabel and Jesse look at each other and laugh. Isabel playfully pushes Jesse.]
[Mrs. Evans goes into Isabel's room to look for Isabel's planner. She opens it up and sees Max's new number. It's 505-555-0146, if anyone cares :) ]
[Max is in Kal's kitchen eating lunch and looking at the phone Kal gave him when a phone rings. First Max thinks it's the phone he's holding, but it's really his own cell phone.]
Max: Hello?
Mrs. Evans: Max? It's mom.
Max: [not too thrilled.] Hi.
Mrs. Evans: How are you?
Max: Good, I'm good.
Mrs. Evans: Where are you honey?
Max: I'm in California, mom.
Mrs. Evans: California? Why?
Max: Just because, mom.
Mrs. Evans: [sighs] What is happening to our family? Do you know about your sister?
Max: What about her?
Mrs. Evans: She and Jesse Ramirez got engaged.
Max: Wait. What?? And you're okay with this?
Mrs. Evans: Doesn't much matter what I think. But Max, Isabel values your opinion, will you talk to her?
Max: Okay.
Mrs. Evans: Do you need anything?
[Kal walks in.]
Max: No, mom [he sees Kal.]
Mrs Evans: I just wanted to hear your voice. I love you so much Max.
Max: Me too. Bye. [He hangs up Kal is standing next to him.]
Kal: How's mommy?
Max: [picks up the other phone] Why did you give me your phone?
Kal: I'm huge. I could get another one. [He starts to walk away.]
Max: Langley stop.
[Kal stops.]
Max: Look at me.
[Kal turns around and looks at him.]
Max: Do you like ice cream?
Kal: I'm not in the zone.
Max: Would you like to get me some?
Kal: No. [he smiles]
Max: Langley, get me some ice cream.
[Kal walks over to the freezer and gets Max some ice cream and sits it beside Max.]
Max: [picks up the ice cream] See, I've been thinking about this. You didn't give me the phone cuz you felt sorry for me, you did it because I told you to. When I give a direct order you have to follow it, don't you?
Kal: Yes.
Max: I wish I knew these rules a little sooner, Kal, we could have save some time. [he puts the ice cream down.] You and I are going to find that ship.
[Kal walks away.]
[Max and Kal are in Kal's car. They pull up to an airforce base. They go through the check point and are cleared to enter.]
[Max and Kal are walking on the base.]
Max: Let me hear the plan again.
Kal: I will meet with General Changreers, the millitary consultant I've used on many Kal Langley Productions. I will find out where the ship is being stored and get permission to examine it.
Max: Because...
Kal: because I am striving for authenticity on my new picture Saturn Skies.
Max: You'll do it casual. Say it like it doesn't even matter whether or not he gives you what you are asking for, because if you get too eager you ma--
Kal: Wait.
Max: --y get suspicious.
Kal: Wait, wait, are you giving me direction? I am sorry, but how many Academy Awards have you won? [he puts his hand to his ear] Huh?? Cuz I've won four. [he walks away.]
[The general comes out of an "Authorized Personnel Only" door and greets Kal.]
Kal: Haaaaa!!!
General: Kal you old dog, how are you?
Kal: Eddie!
General: [shakes his head.] You Hollywood boys. Who's the kid?
Kal: Him? Nah, he's just an intern. (to Max) Later!
Max: Alright.
[CrashDown Cafe. Michael is eating at the counter. Isabel comes in and sits next to him.]
Isabel: Why am I the only second class citizen here?
Michael: [sighs] We're not doing this here.
Isabel: When you get together with Maria, nobody stood in your way, and Max can clearly do whatever the hell he wants. I am the only one who has to follow the rules.
Michael: I'm not changing my opinion, this marriage is wrong.
Isabel: Wrong for who? Okay, maybe this doesn't seem rational to you, but it doesn't have to. I am crazy about this guy. God Michael, all that I am asking for is a normal life.
Michael: And why doesn't Jesse deserve the same thing? Everybody that we come in contact with is at risk. Only in his case, if and when the trouble starts, he won't even know what's coming. That kinda sucks.
Wendy (wedding planner): Isabel. Oh, I am so glad to run into you. Once second.
[Isabel nods and Wendy walks back to her booth.]
Michael: If you really loved him, you wouldn't be this selfish.
[He walks away. Wendy takes his seat.]
Wendy: Look at this [she hands her a brouchure.] I just discovered a new horse-drawn carriage company. How about the fantastic gold tassle on its harness.
Isabel: Horses. Um, I am actually the only girl who never liked them. We're going to be taking a car to and from the reception. [She slids the brochure in front of Wendy.]
Wendy: [slips it back to Isabel.] Honey, do me a favor, just take this home and show it to your mom. You know the more I think about it the happier I am you turned down the April date at Enden Pond.
Isabel: [confused] What?
Wendy: Yeah, your mother was right, it's too nippy that time of year.
Isabel: You talked to my mother?
Wendy: When the day opened up, I called her right away.
[Isabel's cell phone rings.]
Isabel: Excuse me. [She answers it.] Hello?
Max: So you think you're getting married?
Isabel: How--how did you--how did you find that out?
Max: Mom tracked me down. Isabel, you've only known this guy for a month.
Isabel: Four months, and don't call him "this guy."
Max: Either way, I don't see the urgency.
Isabel: You know what. I am not going to have this conversation with you on the phone
Max: Look, just don't make anymore plans until I get back.
Isabel: Stop it! I am not a child.
Max: Yeah, well, you're acting like one.
Isabel: (to herself) Yeah, well. [she hangs up on him.]
Wendy: Uh, yeah, uh, you have a good one okay? [she smiles then leaves.]
[Isabel is upset.]
[In the general's office. He just got off the phone with someone.]
General: Yes, well, thank you sir. [he hangs up the phone.] Kal, I wish I could help you but the boys at the pentagon say it's a no go.
Kal: Ed, come on. It's not like we're talking about national security. Everybody knows this ship is a hoax.
General: Well, of course it's a hoax, I just think that after Pearl Harbor they're a little bit more choosy. You understand.
Kal: Uh huh, uh huh, but between you and me, the ship is on the base. Am I right?
General: [shakes his head.] Sorry Kal. I can't help ya.
[Kal walks of the "Authorized Personnel Only Door." Max is there waiting for him.]
Max: Where are they holding it
Kal: He wouldn't say.
Max: Someone else must know. Who can you call?
Kal: They won't help us.
Max: You're not telling me something.
Kal: You've lost it kid.
Max: Tell me what you know Kal.
Kal: [stops walking and turns around and faces Max] The ship is here.
Max: [as he walks past him.] Take me to it.
[Evans' house. Mrs. Evans is folding laundry, Isabel walks in.]
Mrs. Evans: Hi honey, how was class?
Isabel: You told Max. That was my news to tell him. Where did you even find his number?
Mrs. Evans: In your address book.
Isabel: Oh my god...
Mrs. Evans: Isabel let me explain.
Isabel: Don't. Please don't try to defend yourself. I ran into Wendy today, and she told me that a spot opened up at Enden Pond which I specifically said that I wanted, and you told her no. And then you go and tell Max knowing full well that he won't approve. And--God mom, you're acting like you don't want this wedding to happen.
[Mrs. Evans slowly looks up at Isabel.]
Mrs. Evans: Maybe I don't. I thought if I could just slow things down that maybe you'd come to your senses.
Isabel: Why?
Mrs. Evans: Because you're making a mistake, Isabel.
Isabel: A mistake? I love him.
Mrs. Evans: Then date him, get to know him. You don't have to marry him Isabel. Not like this. Not in six months for godsake Isabel
Isabel: I have been a good daughter. I have always, always made responsible decisions. Why would you think that now I'm not?
Mrs. Evans: It hasn't even been a year since Alex. You graduated high school without a firm plan for your future. I mean, your--your brother, look at what's happening with Max. We don't know. Your whole world has been torn apart. I only makes sense that you'd grab a hold of the first stable thing that came along.
Isabel: No. NO! That is not what he is to me.
Mrs. Evans: He's not right for you.
Isabel: Why? Because he's Latino?
Mrs. Evans: Uggh. Of course not!
Isabel: Then I don't understand why you don't want this to happen. I don't see any other reason for it.
Isabel, if you rush into this, you're going to wake up some day, sweetheart, and your gonna be a bitter, live-at-home, 20 year old divorcee. Is that what you want?
Isabel: Thanks for your suppose mom. [she leaves.]
[Night Time at the air force base.]
Kal: It's in there.
Max: You can see through metal?
Kal: No, it's the only building big enough to hold a ship.
[Max uses his powers to unlock the door. They go inside. The ship is there.]
Kal: Well, you got what you wanted. I'm leaving. Oh, I forgot to mention, you'll need the key.
Max: Oh, I forgot to mention [he takes out the diamond] I have it. You can't leave, you're my pilot.
Kal: I'll have to shape shift to operate the controls.
Max: My son needs me.
[Kal grabs his arm.]
Kal: You're asking me to throw away everything I've ever asked for.
Max: You'll never be human, Langley [he walks towards the ship. Kal follows.]
Kal: You don't want to go back there, this is such a better place
Max: I'm going to find my son, and then we're coming back.
Kal: It won't be that easy.
Max: How do we get the ship out of here?
[Kal doesn't answer.]
Max: Tell me how we do this!
Kal: First you have to open up the hanger door[he opens to the panel on the wall.], but not until I get the ship airbourne. Too soon, the alarm will go off, and all hell will break loose.
Max: And then what?
Kal: I lower the entry beam and you step in and we're outta here. Please. Listen to your human side. I don't want to go.
[Max looks at Kal]
Max: Shape shift. Fly the ship.
[Kal shakes his head, and walks to the ship. He uses the diamond to lower the entry beam. He shape shifts and we see his true alien form. He looks back at Max, and Max looks down at the ground. Kal is inside the ship now. The ship is on.]
[CrashDown. Liz has Max's care package. She sits next to Maria on a couch, and opens the package.]
[Liz hands her a CD]
Liz: Do you want your cd back?
[Maria takes it.]
Maria: Oh.
Liz: Sure there you go.[she takes a bag out of the package.] And how about these peanut butter pretzles? I know that you really like those. [She puts them on Maria's lap] Here, just take them. [She takes a tape out] Here, past 3 Simpsons on tape, really funny episodes and why don't you take these stupid cookies that I made and this really ugly, stupid picture of myself, why don't you just take it all Maria. [She closes the package.]
[Maria looks at her.]
Maria: Are we breaking up?
[Liz doesn't say anything.]
Maria: No call?
Liz: Nothing. And I was totally panaicked until I talked to Isabel on the phone and she told me that Max called her this afternoon.
[Maria lifts her arm]
Maria: Come here.
[Liz leans on Maria.]
Maria: I feel your pain girlfriend. And you know what? Whenever this happens to me there's only one thing I can do. And that is take it out on Michael.
[Liz laughs.]
Maria: let's go to his apartment right now.
Liz: You know that I have been with him through all of this, all of it, and anytime he needs anything [she hits her chest.] I'm there, right? And he can't even pick up the phone.
Maria: Well this phone that you speak of it's a revolutionary concept, yes, but it does work both ways.
Liz: I know.
[Kal has the ship airbourne. Max opens the hanger door. Max's phone rings.] he looks to see whose calling. It's Liz. He doesn't answer it. He puts it away, and the entry beam comes on. Max walks towards it. he's almost under the beam when it cuts off, and the ship starts wobbling. Max runs and slides to the wall. The ship comes crashing down. Kal comes out. He's lying on the floor. Max closes the hanger door and runs to Kal.]
Max: Langley?
Kal: Too much damage from the inital crash.
[Max grabs Kals arms and pulls him away.]
Kal: The generator was overloaded.
[Evans house. Isabel walks up to her mom who is emptying the dishwasher.]
Mrs. Evans: Hey you. There's left over chicken in the fridge honey.
Isabel: I didn't come to eat. I, uh, [she sits down.] I came because a spot opened up at the wedding pavilon at Summer Haven Park
Mrs. Evans: Will your father ever learn to load this thing right.
Isabel: Jesse and I are getting married there in two weeks.
Mrs. Evans: [surprised] You're what?
Isabel: Getting married in to weeks.
Mrs. Evans: Because you're mad at me.
Isabel: No.
Mrs. Evans: Yes you are, Isabel. You're trying to put me in my place, aren't you? You and I, we've been playing this game for years.
Isabel: [shakes her head.] No. [sighs.] This isn't about you. I came because I love you, and I would very much like it if you'd be a part of what is going to be the best thing that has ever happened to me in my life.
Mrs. Evans: [shakes her head] I'm sorry, but I can't do that.
[There's a knock on the door. Mrs. Evans answers it.]
Mrs. Evans: Michael.
Michael: Mrs. Evans.
Mrs. Evans: Come on in.
Michael: Yeah, Maria said you wanted this back [he hands her the dirty casserole dish], so I figured [He looks at Isabel. She looks very sad.] Oh, is this a bad time?
Mrs. Evans: Oh no, no, not at all. Isabel why don't you see in Michael wants something to drink.
Michael: No, I'm fine thanks.
[They both look at Isabel.]
Mrs. Evans: Isabel?
[Isabel slowly looks up at her mother.]
Isabel: [about to cry] Excuse me. [She leaves]
[Kal's house. Max pulls up in Kal's car, and helps Kal out of the car onto his fron steps.]
Max: Langley?
Kal: I destroyed my life for you tonight. All for nothing. Because of you, everything I've worked for is gone.
Max: Kal...
Kal: I've always been your majesty, selfish and ungrateful. Being your proector might be encoded in my genes, but after tonight, I'll never stop hating you [he stumbles up the steps to his door.]
Max: Kal? You were right, I slept with the enemy the sent my own child back with her [Kal goes inside his house, he follows.] It was the biggest mistake of my life and I have to live with it every single day. [Kal starts going upstairs.] It's my fault. I shouldn't have dragged you into this, but I didn't have anything to--I didn't know what to do. I--I'm sorry.
Kal: Think of all the loved ones you almost left behind. Your sister, girlfriend, your mother who feels like she's already lost you...
Max: How do you know about them?
Kal: It's my job. Go home Max, don't come back. Word of advice, the more you embrace your alien side, the more you're going to lose.
[Night time. Isabel is walking alone. When she comes to a street light, she puts her hand on the post and makes the light go out. Michael drives up on his motorcycle.]
Michael: That's city property.
[Isabel continues to walk and shortens out another light.]
Michael: What's going on with your mom?
Isabel: [sighs] I'm getting married in two weeks and she told me she wants nothing to do with the wedding. I'm all alone in this Michael. Do you have any idea how that feels? Max found out the other day. You can imagine what his react was. That's why I wanted--I just, I needed you to congratulate me the other night. You know, can't you be on my side just this once?
Michael: Isabel you don't care of what I think.
Isabel: How can you say that.
Michael: Because if you did, then you wouldn't have Maria break the news.
Isabel: I'm sorry. That was stupid. I just--I was afraid that you would freak out, and I didn't think that I could handle it, so...I'm sorry. I know that you are worried about Jesse, but I'm going to keep him safe.
Michael: I hope you can.
Michael, your opinion means as much to me as Max's. You're like a brother to me too.
[Michael looks across he street at the light. He uses his powers to completely destroy the light and bulb.]
[They laugh]
Isabel: The point is just to kind of...
Michael: So in two weeks.
Isabel: Less than, actually.
Michael: Congratulations, Isabel.
[Isabel smiles. They hug.]
Isabel: Thank you.
[CrashDown. Liz is sweeping the floor. She sees Max's care package and stops. She throws the care package away.]
[She walks to the front of the cafe and sees Max outside. He comes inside.]
Liz: Hi.
Max: Hi.
Liz: When did you get back?
Max: Just now. [he starts walking towards her.]
Liz: You didn't call.
Max: I was driving all night. I just had to get back to see you. I'm sorry
Liz: You can't do this Max. I love you, but [shakes her head.] You know, lately, I just haven't been feeling it back.
Max: [walks up to her.] I didn't mean to
Liz: But you did.
Max: Liz, I know you've been here alone, waiting for me. [he steps closer to her] And I was wrong.
Liz: [steps back.] No, Max. [Max leans against the counter.] What Max? What happened?
Max: I failed. And my son [his voice gets shaky] he's out there somewhere [he shakes his head.] I've just messed everything up. Langley's life. Yours.
[Liz hugs Max.]
Max: I'm so sorry Liz. I'm so sorry.
Liz: It's okay. It's okay.
[Max starts crying.]
Max: I'll never leave you Liz.
[Max and Liz continue to hug.]
